what do you want to learn/know?16

I’d love to share more tips, tutorials and such on my blog, but never sure what people might actually want to know. So I am putting it out there, from seeing what I can do, what do you want to know? It could be about running a business, doing freelance, technical stuff, design tips and tricks, how-tos, lists of resources or links.. whatever mysteries you may want revealed!

I would love to learn more tutorials about freelancing, and working with clients. Such as, how to make up contracts, quote projects, how many revisions you include…. Stuff like that. Also, any tricks with building websites with wordpress, customizing forms, using css, techy nerdy stuff like that. love your work!

I would absolutely love it if you could do some posts on how to make your way into becoming a freelance illustrator from the very beginning.
Everything else that you mentioned sound really interesting and it would be great to read about it.

I would love to know how you make collages, like the one on your front page. Although, I’m interested in anything you like to share! :)

Your designs are always so well made, yet, never over-done! How does one know when a design is ready and when it’s time to stop? I keep struggling with tweaking my designs into infinity…

Your work is so stunning – no matter what kind of work it is! I would love to see a series sharing whatever you care to reveal about your creative process… the techie side as well as actual design/aesthetics – I’ll be reading!

Haha… a tutorial on how you created this adorable comment box, for starters! ;)

I’d love some advice on how to get and keep organized with a freelance design business! And how to manage with stress. I also agree with one of the other commentors about learning more about the creative process, a step by step would be so so so useful!!

And here is a question that I badly need answering…. some clients of mine encounter technical problems later on, sometimes months after i’ve finished working for them, and expect me to fix it for them free of charge and straight away. I think they think I know how to fix everything and I have all the time in the world to stop and do things for them that take up a lot of time. How do I deal with that? I don’t want to offer bad service and not do it, but at the same time I can’t afford to keep doing this for everyone for no pay at all. ??

Hi Betty,
Thanks. In regards to additional work. I consider once the final invoice is paid and job done, any additional work is extra. Unless the issue, was your fault and it just didn’t show up until now (in which case fixing the problem is the nice thing to do, since it should have been done in the first place). But if they are issues because of things they have done/added or they want new things added or things removed, then you should kindly explain that there will be extra charges for additional work. And if it is something you struggle to do technically, then it is good to have some more talented developers on hand to refer them to.
I know clients have a tendency to think you have nothing else to do but drop everything for them, which can be hard, when you want them to feel special and important. Perhaps just explain you have already committed to deadlines with other clients but can do it on..(give them a time you can work on it), that way they know you respect your other clients, but you are not disregarding them either and will set aside a time to work on it.
If this is a constant issue for you, maybe you need to create a contract explaining what is covered in the cost, and when additional charges will be incurred, that way if they are causing you grief, you can refer them to what was stated in the contact.
All the best!!! p.s Im still figuring some of this out myself, there is always more to learn and improve on when freelancing

Hi Tabitha. I would also love a little tutorial on how you made the comment box! so cute! Also how long did it take you to get such a great web presence- blogs, newsletters etc, I am thinking of all those things now and it’s all so overwhelming! Did you build up your following mainly through clients or did you make other contacts as well?

All your suggestions sound great! I would really love some design tips from as everything you create is so beautiful. I loved one of your previous posts on how to make images pop up over your navigation bars when in the hover stage. More stuff like that would be cool :)

I loved the hover image nav bar tutorial! I’d love a tutorial on customising your share this button and your comments section. These are small things that I wouldn’t really want to pay someone to do for me unless they were doing my entire blog, so I’d love to learn how to customise them myself.
